CleanBC Government Buildings announced in PG
PRINCE GEORGE – Using the District Energy System as the backdrop, the Minister of Citizens’ Services Jinny Sims announced the new CleanBC Government Buildings program. That will see the dedication of $58 million over the next five years to improve the efficiency of roughly a thousand government buildings. The goal is to improve energy efficiencies in those buildings by 80% by 2050.
“The B.C. government is leading by example and walking the talk when it comes to building a better future for British Columbians,” said Sims. “The new CleanBC Government Buildings Program will help government facilities consume less energy, reduce emissions, create local jobs and save British Columbians money.”
Sims marvelled at the foresight of the City of Prince George’s partnership with Lakeland Mills to create the District Energy System, which uses wood waste from the mill to generate heat for 11 facilities in the downtown.
One of those buildings is the courthouse downtown, which will also see some work this year to improve its energy efficiency even more. Under the program, the courthouse will also receive a new electric vehicle charging station, lighting improvements and retrofits to the heating and ventilation system.
