Governments step in to save salmon
CLINTON — The federal and B-C governments are looking at different options to help salmon migrate to the upper part of the Fraser River after a rock slide blocked their passage.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada says the slide happened around June 21st or 22nd in a remote area upstream of a narrow portion of the Fraser River near Big Bar, just west of Clinton.
The department’s Bonnie Antcliffe says it has installed acoustic monitoring equipment to determine if fish are able to pass up through waterfall the slide created to the upper part of the river.
Jennifer Davis, with the B-C Forests Ministry, says they’re looking at options including transporting the fish by truck to the upper part of the river, but it’s too early to say what action they’ll take
