Keep your car doors locked, thieves may be lurking: theft from vehicles down but expected to rise
PRINCE GEORGE– “Lock your vehicles and leave nothing,” that’s what the Prince George RCMP are asking vehicle owners to do throughout the city.
From June 16th to 29th there were 51 reported theft from vehicles in the PG area. Police say that thieves aren’t being deterred by the time of day, but that thefts from vehicles are happening at all times of day.
Prince George RCMP say that this in fact good news as theft is actually down 32 percent from the previous two week period where 75 were reported. Police attribute the drop to the arrest and jailing of some persons known to steal from vehicles. However there is no good, without bad. Police say the bad news is that other persons known to commit these crimes will soon be released from custody and are expecting to see that number rise again.
“Every week many property offenders are arrested, others are convicted, while others complete their sentence and are released from jail,” says Cpl. Craig Douglass. “There is never a good time to leave items in your vehicles and never a good time to leave your vehicle doors unlocked.”
