VICTORIA–After more than five years, the BC Government is finally delivering on its promise to bring ride hailing to BC.

Companies will be able to apply to enter the ride-hailing market as early as September 3, 2019. Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure says that regulations will be put into place to ensure the driver and company safety, and promoting accessibility options in the industry.

According to a release from the ministry, the regulations will serve as framework for companies looking to apply to the Passenger Transportation Board. The board will decide the supply, boundaries and fares charged to passengers.

“People need to feel safe when they get into a ride-hailing vehicle, which is why police chiefs across B.C. are supportive of the Province’s new regulations, including the provincial record check,” said chief constable Neil Dubord, chair of the BC Association of Chiefs of Police Traffic Safety Committee.
