PRINCE GEORGE–The latest show at the Prince George Playhouse is a bit of a family reunion.

Judy Russell presents The Beauty and the Beast this Thursday, and it is quite the family affair; with Jon, Matt and Andrew Russell performing together. The last time they were all on stage for a show was 7 years ago.

The Russell’s have pulled long hours at the Playhouse, creating the stage, ensuring the audio and lights are set for opening night, and attending rehearsals in the evenings.

The family spends a lot of time together, and it may have you wondering how mixing business with family doesn’t have them yanking at each others throats. “You sorta have to compartmentalize work and family time, as a family, with what we do,” said Matt Russell the shows Venue Manager, who also plays Gaston.

“Off stage it’s difficult because you want to go have family dinners and stuff, and you don’t want to necessarily talk about this, (work)” said Jon Russell, Production Designer for the show, also plays the Beast. The family has however, found a way to make it work for them, with Matt Russell saying that communication plays a large part.

All three brothers have been performing since a young age, with their first performance together almost 25 years ago. We asked them what it was like to perform with family, “On stage, it’s hard not to laugh…especially in our battle scene with Gaston and the Beast…It’s hard to stay in character with people you are close to,” said Jon.

The brothers are excited to have the chance to perform together again. The show opens Thursday, July 11 and runs until Thursday, July 27. Tickets are available here.
