PRINCE GEORGE – Council has received a report on the condition of all civic facilities, with the Asset Manager laying out a suggestion on two different methods for maintaining those structures.Forty-four structures were assessed and their conditions were determined.

Some facilities are in better condition than others. For example, the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena requires more than $11 million in upgrades. That was a surprise to Mayor Lyn Hall, who called the figure “staggering.”

“Every year, we invest more and more into that facility.” The report also set out that, while the City should be spending $4.6 million annually on facilities, it only spends an average of $1.7 million per year.

The report set out two suggested models for dealing with those upgrades. Method 1 looks at all building components, from windows to flooring and the critical things like electrical. The annual bill for that is the $4.6 million dollars. Method 2 only looks at the critical components, like electrical and mechanical. The annual bill for that is $4 million per year.
