PRINCE GEORGE–If you don’t know what to do with your mascara wands, here’s an idea.

The Recycling and Environmental Planning Society (REAPS) is collecting your clean, mascara wands. Why? To help clean little critters, furry coats.

Terri McClymont, Executive Director of REAPS says she was stuck pondering what to do with old mascara wands. Her daughter happened to bump into an initiative in the states that collected wands in order to rid rodents fur of fly eggs and larva. They searched for a Canadian version of the initiative and found it, Project Wild Canada.

McClymont started collecting wands three months ago and says she is looking to fill up a shoe box before mailing them out. Currently she has around 30 wands, which she says can be cleaned easily,” the wands need to be washed with clean water and soap and be deposited in my mailbox, right outside the door if we are not here.”
