QUESNEL–The 45th Annual Billy Barker Days kicked off Thursday, July 20th at Lebourdais Park.

The four day long celebration of the historical gold rush kicked off with Senior’s Day, an event that provided a lunch for seniors while they enjoyed live music.

Volunteers are a huge part of the success of the event, with some being re-occurring volunteers. ” I got a phone call yesterday from a gentleman who was like, ‘you know we are there right?’ cause they’ve been there (Billy Barker Days) now, I think at least 10 years,” sayid Selena Weiers, President of the Billy Barkers Days Society.

The event continues to grow, offering food, live music, rides and fair games every year.

Two years ago the event was cancelled due to the wildfires, Weiers said that she could tell the community missed the event and is happy that this years is a-go, even if the forecast says rain, “I’ll take rain over smoke and fires any day.”

Billy Barkers day is a free event that runs until Sunday, July 21.
