UPDATE: Couple killed in northern BC were victims to gun violence police say

NORTHERN ROCKIES– UPDATE: The BC RCMP held a media conference Monday, July 22 where they said that the investigation into the double Homicide of 23-year-old Lucas Fowler and 24 year-old Chynna Deese continues to progress.

The RCMP say that they can now confirm the couple were victims to gun violence and that the 1986 blue Chevrolet van with Alberta license plates was owned by Fowler. The two, Fowler from Australia, and Deese from the U.S.A were travelling through northern BC.

In the media conference Lucas Fowler’s father spoke saying that the two (Lucas Fowler and Chynna Deese) were in love and that this was a tragic ending to their love story, “It’s the worst ever love story,” he said as he addressed the media.

Police are asking for the publics help in identifying this man, who a witness says they saw speaking with the couple on the highway.

The man is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • with darker skin and dark hair
  • shorter than 6’3
  • with a possible beard and/or glasses

The man in the sketch may be associated to an older model Jeep Cherokee with a black stripe on the hood and black light/bull bar with small, covered lights. He is believed to have been travelling southbound on the Highway.

Police continue to ask for the publics assistance in progressing the investigation.

EARLIER:Police have confirmed the identities of the victims of the double homicide around 20 km south of Liard Hot Springs.

In an effort to further the investigation and help determine a timeline leading up to their deaths, we are identifying the victims as Chynna Noelle Deese of the United States and Lucas Robertson Fowler of Australia, states Sgt. Janelle Shoihet, Media Relations Officer for the BC RCMP.

The pair was found deceased on Highway 97 on Monday, July 15. RCMP would like to talk to anyone who travelled the stretch of highway between Sunday, July 14 at 4 pm through Monday, July 15 at 8 am. An older model blue minivan with Alberta license plates was found at the scene and police would also like to speak with anyone who may have seen the vehicle.
