BRITISH COLUMBIA–If you’ve ever found yourself in an argument, or witnessed an argument with someone at the office on how warm or it may be…you’re not the only one.

Almost a quarter of British Columbians are experiencing discomfort and conflict over A/C in the workplace, according to a survey conducted by BC Hydro.

BC Hydro found that 60 percent of women that were surveyed reported being cold on a regular basis, needing to bring blankets, extra layers and even heaters to work during the summer. Meanwhile men were twice as likely to say that they found their office temperature to be ideal during the summer.

A recent study published in the journal, PLOS ONE, revealed that women work better in warmer temperatures, opposed to men who work better in a cooler office climate.

Bob Gammer, northern BC’s, BC Hydro’s Community Relations Manager says that there is no ideal temperature for everyone, but that there are steps that can be taken by employers to make things more accommodating. Optimizing cooling systems to a temperature between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius is one thing employers can do to attempt to keep employees happy at work.

Anyone who finds themselves consistently cold at work is advised to bring easy layers to take on or off during the day.
