Cariboo Fire Centre prohibits category 2 open fires

Jul 25, 2019 | 12:16 PM

WILLIAMS LAKE– Category 2 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre starting Monday, July 29, to help prevent human-caused wildfires in the area.

The prohibition is being implemented due to an increase in fire danger rating caused by a warming trend throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre. Anyone conducting Category 2 open burning in that region is asked to extinguish any such fires by the deadline. The prohibition will remain in place until September 27 of this year, unless otherwise notified.

The prohibition does not ban campfires that are a half-metre wide or smaller and does not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes.
