PRINCE GEORGE — Stats Canada’s Crime Severity Index for 2018 saw Prince George drop in the overall rankings from 11th to 17th. The index tracks the severity of police-reported crime by accounting for both the amount of crime reported by police and the relative seriousness of these crimes.

Mayor Lyn Hall is pleased with the positive results after the City and RCMP’s efforts to make Prince George feel safer. He did note, however, more still needs to be done to continue to improve the crime situation in Prince George.

Residents we talked to gave mixed opinions on the matter. One woman said she would not feel safe walking around town at night but she would during the day when there were more people. A man who recently moved from Abbotsford said he does feel safer in Prince George than his previous community.
