Gas deal for the Regional District

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s an unassuming, cinder block building on the site of the Foothills Boulevard landfill. but soon, it will be part of a deal between the Regional District of Fraser Fort George and Fortis BC.

“Fortis will receive our raw landfill gas and turn it in to renewable energy, or RNG. So it’s feeding into their system to heat houses,” explains Petra Wildauer, General Manager, Environmental Services.

The Regional District will receive between $75,000 and $145,000 annually from the deal, but the Regional District says that’s not the point.

“It’s just the right thing to do for our environment. The money that we’ll receive will, more or less, offset the cost of maintaining the supply of landfill gas for this plant,” says Art Kaene, Board Chair, Regional District of Fraser Fort George.
