Unanimous report released on the 2020 provincial budget
VICTORIA–The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services has released its unanimous report on the 2020 provincial budget.
The report consists of 106 recommendations for the next provincial budget, also providing a summary of concerns and priorities put forward by British Columbians. “The committee is grateful to everyone who took the time to share their views and bring attention to the challenges and opportunities facing the province,” said Bob D’Eith, committee chair. “Several issues emerged as key areas for action, including providing comprehensive supports to youth formerly in care and advancing water sustainability.”
Some of the recommendations were targeted at Advanced Education in Adult Education and Literacy as well as further support for Indigenous students, Economic Development in agriculture and aerospace as well as Climate Change and Energy.
The budget consultation is usually held every fall, however this year the consultations started on June 3 and ran until June 28, in order to enable the committee to deliver the report earlier in the budget process. During the consultation period, the committee heard 276 presentations at 15 hearings in communities across BC.
