$700 earrings stolen and returned, a robbery with a happy ending

PRINCE GEORGE–Pepper Tree Hair Studio owner, Shannon Wright was subject to a break and enter earlier this week, one with a bit of a happy ending.

Early, Wednesday morning Wright says she awoke to a call of a break in at her store downtown, when she arrived she realized it was more than just a break in. A jewelry box containing pieces by local artists was the only item of the break and enter theft. ” I was shocked…I felt vandalized,” she said to us in an on camera interview.

Shannon Wright, owner of Pepper Tree Hair Studio fell victim to a break and enter on Wednesday morning.

The box contained an array of jewelry, however there was one pair in particular that Wright was feeling regret over losing. A pair of gold earrings, which she has wanted to gift her mother since the day they made their way into her store. The earrings were estimated to be worth around $700 at the time she purchased them, however that price has increased since. “In there (the jewelry box) were these…earrings when I realized that…I thought ohhh I should’ve given those to my mom.”

Angelique Levac says a cyclist who spotted the jewelry box brought her to it. This is where she discovered the earrings.

The earrings wouldn’t be missing for long as a local cyclist ran into the jewelry box on a ride through Connaught Hill Park. The box was still intact when he first noticed it; it was surrounded by artist tags, which had been attatched to each of the pieces of jewelry, explaining who made them. The cyclist phoned Angelique Levac, owner of Angelique’s Native Arts, wondering if she was missing any jewelry. She said she wasn’t but asked to be taken to the spot where the box had been found.

The remains of the jewelry box were found near Connaught Hill park.

The cyclist brought Levac to the site, however, this time the box was in shatters. Levac proceeded to sweep away the broken glass with her foot, and to her surprise found the earrings. She took them back to her store and began making calls, until she discovered that the earrings belonged to Wright.

“I was shocked! I was shocked. Well, for one thing, she closed her business down, she went out to the site and those are two big things in themselves–to close your business down to go help out another friendly neighbour.”-Shannon Wright

Wright is grateful for the return of her earrings which she says she has now gifted to her mom. Wright is in the midst of upgrading her store’s security, in hopes that thieves won’t target her again.
