PRINCE GEORGE— The decrease in wildfires this summer has benefitted the tourism sector in Prince George.

Destination BC has seen record breaking numbers, with about a 20 per cent increase in tourists within the province so far. Tourism Prince George has also seen an increase in tourists coming through- there’s been about an 11 per cent increase in tourism in the PG area.

The busy season started in April, with American tourists travelling north to Alaska. In the subsequent months, tourism activity has been relatively consistent.

Rainy weather might not be what most would call ideal camping weather, but it’s better than fire and smoke. Blue Cedars Campground in Prince George has seen significantly more travellers heading up north compared to last year.
