PRINCE GEORGE— The 4-H Club is an agricultural organization that focuses on youth development. It encourages children to work hard, be a leader and also understand the intricacies of farming.

This event on the BC Northern Exhibition (BCNE) grounds is called Achievement Days. Participants spent a lot of time preparing for it, with some raising their animals for ten months. A judge comes in and evaluates things like how well participants show the animals and which animals are the best to sell. After showing the animals, an auction takes place to sell them- mimicking what farmers do with their animals.

The BC Government just announced it will provide an additional $68,000 in annual funding to 4-H in BC, which could mean more opportunities for participants in the near future.

“They’ll either make the trips we already go on better or they may even be able to make new trips,” 4-H BC Ambassador BreeAnna MacDonald says. “We’ll just be able to have more resources and just people to help us.”
