PRINCE GEORGE— Kashmir is a state in India. There has been a territorial conflict between India and Pakistan over the region for many years.

Kashmir has been in lockdown since August 5, meaning Kashmiri people have not been in communication with anyone outside of the region since then.

Akhlaq Hakim has been living in Canada for eight years, but still has family in Kashmir. He hasn’t been able to talk to his parents or brothers in two weeks. He fears what may be happening to them and is urging people to speak about what’s happening in Kashmir.

“We want our government to do something for us- to at least raise voices against this atrocity,” Hakim says.
