PRINCE GEORGE – The Canadian Artistic Swimming Olympic Team is accepting applications to host training for the 2020 Olympics. The Water Lilies Synchronized Swim Club is throwing its hat into the competition and got a little help from Council.

The host club will be required to provide a gymnasium, a weight room, transportation, accommodations and meals, as well as a pool. After making presentation last night, Council has approved an application by the club to waive the rental fees for the Aquatic Centre.

“This is an easy win,” stated Councillor Garth Frizzell, who was part of the unanimous decision to approve the request, should the application be successful. When asked about the likelihood of a successful application, the club admitted its chances “are small,” but Council’s support as well as that of Tourism Prince George will help tremendously.

Councillor Kyle Sampson went one better and added a letter of support for the application, as well. However, Club President and Coast, Nicole Barger, added the fact Prince George has hosted national competition, specifically, the Canada Winter Games, gives Prince George a bit of an edge.
