OTTAWA — A House of Commons committee controlled by Liberal MPs blocked an opposition attempt to get federal ethics commissioner Mario Dion to testify about his report on the SNC Lavalin affair today (Aug.21).

Just one of six Liberal MPs on the 10 member committee supported the motion to have Dion testify.

That committee is chaired by Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies Conservative MP Bob Zimmer – who not surprisingly – was very disappointed with today’s outcome.

Moving forward, he is encouraging Canadians to at least read the commissioner’s report.

“I think Canadians need to understand what the commissioner is actually saying is pretty incredible,” he says.

“I think Canadians are looking to hear what the truth is behind the issue with the Trudeau II report and the SNC Lavalin tie-ins. You know, seeing a sitting minister of justice being asked to leave based on her not willing to kowtow to the PMO. I think it’s very concerning and it should be a concern to a lot of Canadians the way this government runs its business behind closed doors.”
