Indigenous families the focus of new Parents Legal Centre

PRINCE GEORGE — A Parents Legal Centre officially opened in Prince George today. The centre deals with families facing child protection matters in and around the city.
PLC’s aim to improve the outcomes of child protection cases and keeping families together when appropriate. The Prince George branch has a team-based approach focusing on early intervention. For First Nations communities, challenges can go even further. The centre spoke about the importance of understanding the culture and history of local First Nations.
According to the Legal Services Society, 63 per cent of children in care in BC are Indigenous.
