PRINCE GEORGE–The last Chinook Yoga in the Park took place over the weekend (Aug.25) and this one accepted donations to a local woman in need.

Chantelle Grafton, of Prince George suffered from a neck injury earlier this year, which landed her in hospital, paralyzed from the neck down, with doctors saying she might never walk again. The Prince George woman has been in Vancouver for treatment for the past several months, and friends say she’s recovering rapidly.

“My local charity of choice was…to go towards the fundraising efforts of Chantal Grafton,” said Chinook Yoga’s Manager and Instructor, Denise Marshall.

Friends of the injured spoke at the event and participated to show their support. Curtis Mayes, a friend of Chantelle’s says he is shocked and happy to see Grafton’s recovery, “they said that she would never be without the large breathing tube…that came out within the first week. They said that she would never, ever breathe on her own…within the last week she has breathed on her own–completely on her own for an hour.”

Doctors also said the Prince George woman would never talk again, however she already is, “almost like normal again. She’s an absolute phenom,” said Mayes.

Currently the GoFundMe that has been set up for Grafton is at almost $113,000. The tank chair is something she is eager to use.

The money raised is going towards medical expenses for Grafton, but the thing she’s most excited about–according to Mayes–is her tank chair, “They really want to get her a tank chair, which is quite literally, a wheelchair–or power chair that has tank treads on it, and you can go anywhere in it.”

A GoFundMe has been det up for Grafton and can be found here.
