RCMP investigate early morning collision

PRINCE GEORGE–UPDATED: Emergency services responded to a collision of a tractor trailer and a truck on Highway 97 and Wall Rd. early this morning (Aug.26.)

The investigation showed that a south bound pick-up truck swerved into the north bound lane in front of a tractor trailer unit travelling at highway speed. The driver of the unloaded tractor trailer managed to swerve into the north bound shoulder to avoid a head on collision. The pick-up side swiped the tractor trailer.

Investigators say that the pick-up driver was in the process of dialing 9-1-1 in relation to another incident when he drifted into the oncoming lane. WHile the Motor Vehicle Act allows for drivers to use their phones to dial 9-1-1, RCMP would like to use this as a reminder to pull over, in a safe location to make a phone call, even in an emergency .RCMP responded to the call before 6 AM.

No one was injured.

EARLIER:Emergency services, including the Prince George RCMP attended the scene of a collision on Highway 97.

The initial report was received just before 6 AM advising of a collision between a tractor trailer and a truck. No serious injuries were reported. Frontline officers remain on scene and are investigating.

Alternating traffic is to be expected in the area for the next couple of hours.
