VICTORIA–Students going back to school this September will benefit from the new K-12 curriculum redesign.

According to a media release from the Ministry of Education the new curriculum is personalized and flexible, and focuses on the core competencies of critical thinking, communication, and social and personal responsibility. The curriculum was redesigned with the help of more that 300 BC and Yukon educators and academic specialists.

The new curriculum also comes with a modernized graduation program which aims at developing the skills post-secondary institutions and future employers are looking for, along with new course options. The program also requires students to complete two new career education courses and an in-depth project which will offer opportunities for more hands-on, real-world learning.

The Ministry is also working on two new resources for teachers to support increased integration of Indigenous knowledge in classrooms.
