NStQ Chiefs congratulate Tŝilhqot’in Nation in steps to tri-partite agreement
WILLIAMS LAKE–Chiefs of the Northern Secwepemc te Qelmucw are congratulating the Tŝilhqot’in Nation in their steps to making a tri-partite agreement with the government.
“The signing of the Gwets’en Nilt’i Pathway Agreement to usher in ‘transformative change’ may provide a framework for an agreement, but that’s just the first step”, says Patrick Harry Chief, Stswecem’c-Xgat’tem (Dog Creek-Canoe Creek) and NStQ spokesperson. “As we have learned over the last 25 years the journey toward self-government is a long, detailed and exhaustive process. The nature of this process is one of self-determination and self-discovery,” says Chief Harry.
After signing the Agreement in Principle with Canada and BC, one year ago the Northern Shuswap Tribal Council is now working toward the finish line. The agreement will also be unique, and will provide for a prosperous, secure and healthy future. The Chiefs of the NStQ wish the TNG National Government the same.
The Northern Shuswap Tribal Council is a non-governing body which represents 4 Northern Shuswap communities. The Northern Secwepemc te Qelmucw is comprised of the four Secwepemc communities Tsq’escen’ (Canim Lake); T’exelc (Williams Lake); Stswecem’c Xgat’tem (Dog Creek – Canoe Creek); and Xat’sull (Soda Creek).
