PRINCE GEORGE–A Prince George woman took to the streets this morning (Friday, Aug.30th) to give out care packages to those living in homelessness, something she says she never thought she’d have the chance to do.

Lydia Thomas lived on the streets of Vancouver for six years, during those six years she says several people reached out to her with care packages, “I remember people like myself coming up to me and giving me that hope…that other people care.” Thomas says she wanted to change her life and did, with the help of her son and daughter.

Now she’s working at Carrier Sekani Family Services as a Wellness Worker, “I’ve always wanted to do something like this, and I never in a million years thought I would get a job to do something that I have such passion for,” she said to us in an on camera interview.

Lloyd Alexis has been living on the streets for around 6 years and was grateful to receive a care kit from Thomas.

She, along with other staff from Carrier Sekani Family Services put together 100 care kits filled with things such as, socks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, a Tim Hortons gift card, menstrual and shaving products and even a little bag of candy. Lloyd Alexis has been living on the streets for around 6 years, he received a care package and is grateful for what Thomas is doing, “I appreciate what they are doing cause there’s a lot of people who really need help,” he said to us.

Thomas says she aspires to inspire hope in those living on the streets of Prince George.
