Red Dress flag flies high 4th year in a row
PRINCE GEORGE–The flag remembering missing and murdered Indigenous women across the Highway of Tears was raised this morning (Sept.5.)
This is the fourth year in a row that the flag has flown high at Mr. PG. Tammy Meise, president of the Prince George Red Dress Society says she lost her childhood best friend to violence, and although her friend wasn’t part of the many lost along the Highway of Tears, Meise says the Red Dress Society remembers murdered and missing Indigenous women across BC.
A stand-in event is scheduled for Sunday at noon at Mr. PG, where a line of those who have lost a loved one will stand and hold a dress in their memory. “When we stand there and hold it in memory of them… it honours them and it allows them to be present with us–in that place in time…and it’s giving back their voice to ensure that they are never forgotten, never forgotten,” she said to us in an on-camera interview. The Khast’an Drummers will also be in attendance hosting an open circle.
