Spruce Kings doubled up in home opener

It was banner raising night at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena for the Prince George Spruce Kings Friday as they close the door on a roller coaster 2018-2019 season.

The banners were raised to the rafters for all of the achievements from last season, but then the new season began as the Spruce Kings welcomed the Surrey Eagles.

Prince George would get on the board first in the opening frame as 16-year-old Finlay Williams found the back of the net on the power play.

The home teams lead was short lived though as Surrey would even the game less than 6 minutes later when Adamo Santia tickled the twine and tied the game at 1.

Surrey would find the back of the net twice in the middle stanza with goals from Carter King and Hudson Schandor to give the visitors a 3-1 lead heading into the final 20 of regulation.

The Spruce Kings would get to within one with 7:26 remaining in the frame as Williams netted his second of the night for the home side, but that was as close as they would come.

Surrey would put the icing on the cake with an empty net goal and walk away with the 4-2 win to open the 2019-2020 BCHL season.

The two clubs will meet again Saturday night at the Rolling Mix. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
