Cougars drop to 0-2 in pre-season following loss to Giants

Sep 8, 2019 | 8:07 AM

It was a much closer result for the Prince George Cougars Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre compared to their one on Friday, but both came with the same result.

The Cougars dropped a 5-3 decision to the reigning B.C division champion Vancouver Giants in a tight contest between the two divisional foes.

Illijah Colina and Ryan Schoettler both found the back of the net for the Cougars in the opening frame which vaulted them to a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Vancouver would respond with two goals in 13 seconds late in the middle frame, but Craig Armstrong would even the contest with 3:05 remaining in the period to tie the game at 3.

Unfortunately for the Cougars it was the Giants would come out in the third and secure the win.

Lukas Svejkovsky scored the game winner and added an empty netter to lock up a 5-3 win for the hometown Giants.

With the loss, the Cougars drop to 0-2 in the pre-season.

They will look for their first win of the exhibition schedule when they play their third game in as many days Sunday night in Kelowna against the Rockets.

Puck drop is at 5:00 p.m.
