Burning as part of fuel mitigation: wildfire prevention

Sep 11, 2019 | 2:13 PM

QUESNEL–If you see smoke starting next Monday, Sept.16 don’t fret. The BC Wildfire Service is planning on burning piles of woody debris on the southern shore of Quesnel Lake near Haggens Point.

The burning is part of a fuel mitigation projet aimed at reducing wildfire risks. Crews will remove hazardous trees, pile up woody material and burn it to reduce the amount of fuel available if a wildfire does occur in the area.

The burning is said to begin as early as Sept.16th and continue until Oct. 31st, 2019. Burning will only occur on days when site and weather conditions are favourable and will allow the smoke to dissipate. BC Wildfire personnel will be in attendance, monitoring the fires.
