Dog bite incident sparks reminder to parents to keep their four-legged friends off school property

It was a scary incident for one local family last week.

Following the school day at Foothills Elementary School, a female student was bitten by a dog which was on a leash on school property.

This has prompted a reminder from School District 57 to both parents and the rest of the city to not bring their dogs to schools and are not allowed on the property at all times.

“School District 57 property is a dog-free area,” stated Board Chair for School District 57 Tim Bennett.

“It is a place we have students coming and going throughout the day. Throughout the evening. So it is best to leave the dogs at home and off school district property. We know the fields are great places for the dogs to run. Neighbourhood green space is always in hot demand, but we just encourage families to take their dogs to other off-leash dog parks throughout the city.”

An incident like this has sparked the school district to work with the City of Prince George bylaw enforcement and the student’s family involved in the incident to figure out if they need to make any changes within their rules and regulations.
