Everywhere signs

Fewer campaign signs

PRINCE GEORGE – The minute the writ dropped on Wednesday, staffers with the incumbent Conservatives were putting up campaign signs.

Local Green Party candidate Mackenzie Kerr followed suit with a few of her own. “Unfortunately, in reality, we have to have lawn signs in this day and age to get our names out there. If we’d had time, love would love to have made our own.” But she says she will be re-using the signs every time she runs.

One notable absence of signs were those of the Liberal candidates. Tracy Calogheros says she is, in part, doing it for environmental reasons, but there’s more. “In the last election, there was such a furor about the number of signs. The general public didn’t like them. So we’ve listened to that and made very conscious choices,” explains Calogheros. “The shift in bylaws in all of the major municipalities makes it pretty clear that the general public is tired of the amount of signs out there.”

If you are a candidate and you’re thinking of putting up signs, just a reminder, there is a City bylaw restricting where and how many signs can be put up.
