Sep 16, 2019 | 10:26 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — Update: The RDFFG says crews for PG Fire have left.

External Relations Manager Renee McCloskey says the Regional District will continue to watch the area carefully and is equipped to treat any hot spots that may flare up.

Earlier: Crews are on the scene of a fire at the Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill this morning.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George says the fire is under control though it’s still burning.

“The fire is on the active face area of the landfill,” says Manager of External Relations Renee McCloskey. “The landfill remains open to the public with most services available. Used oil collection is not available at the moment.”

In light of the situation, the Regional District is requesting people refrain from using the landfill today and consider using one of the area transfer stations instead. You can access a list of transfer stations and hours by clicking here.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time though the Regional District reminds the public that hazardous, flammable or ignitable waste, including lithium batteries is not permitted at the landfill.

We’ll continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
