PRINCE GEORGE–A local woman took to social media asking for the public’s help in being re-united with her puppy.

Heidi Ammundsen was on a walk with her three-month-old Border-Collie-cross when she decided to pop into the Hart Save-On-Foods for less than ten minutes.

She decided to tie her puppy up near the front entrance of the store and headed inside. When she walked out, her pup was gone. “I always wanted a dog and I finally got to a place in my life where my work schedule allows me to keep one, and so it’s something I had been looking forward to for a long time–getting a puppy…and…somebody just went and stole my friend,” said Ammundsen in an on-camera interview.

She had only had the puppy for three weeks before the incident on Saturday, Sept.14.

Witnesses who saw the man described him as white, with darkened teeth, in his fifties and was seen driving a white pick-up.

Manager of Animal Centre Services at the North Cariboo SPCA, Alex Schare, says no one should leave their dog unattended, ” If you’re going to be out and about, even if you just pop to the store for ten minutes or something…don’t leave your dog in the front yard, even if they’re tied up, it doesn’t make a difference. If you have a friendly dog someone could come take your dog. Keep an eye on your dog…just like your children.”

Witnesses told Ammundsen that the man had been heard saying he believed the dog had been abandoned and was rescuing it. Ammundsen is willing to give the alleged suspect the benefit of the doubt, and hopes they will return it to her.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP.
