Prince George-born Myles Mattila is well known in the local hockey community for not only his on ice skills, but also his leadership and mental health advocacy. All three have been recognized by his Kootenay International Junior Hockey League team, the Kelowna Chiefs this season, who have named him co-captain. On top of that, the 20-year-old Mattila has also added to his mental health project MindRight with the Remembering Grant Sheridan Scholarship this season. It honours the Chiefs former owner who passed away this summer and will recognize a KIJHL player for their commitment to hockey, community, and academics.
