Liberals announce northern candidate
PRINCE GEORGE–Mavis Erickson is running as the federal Liberal Party candidate in Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies.
Erickson is known as a lawyer and advocate for the rights of Indigenous people, she has been elected twice as Carrier Sekani Tribal Chief. Erickson is a Harvard Law School Graduate and practices law in Prince George while providing expert advice and services to First Nations Bands and government throughout BC and across the country.
Erickson has dedicated a lot of her time to working in areas involving First Nations women’s rights, through Northern Affairs Canada and served in coordinator roles for the BC Carrier Sekani Tribal Council, BC Ending Violence Association, Human Rights Watch and the Highway of Tears.
She was awarded the UBC Highest Achievement Award for Native People and the Law in 1995.
