PG’s economy holding steady
PRINCE GEORGE – There’s good economic news for Prince George from a pair of sources. Prince George is one of a handful of mid-sized cities to take part in an annual Conference Board of Canadas survey and this year’s findings show
Also, the City of Prince George undertook its own labour force survey of local businesses. It found, despite the downturn in forestry, the workforce in Prince George remains healthy. It found that Prince George’s unemployment rate edged downward, from 5.1% to 4.9% and is forecast to hold steady at 5.1% in 2020. The highest demand industries are health care and hospitality.
“Both studies provide detailed information for businesses and residents about what we are already seeing on the ground here in Prince George. Despite the very real difficulties in the forest industry, Prince George’s diversified economy is resilient and we are even seeing modest gains in important economic indicators,” says Melissa Barcellos, Manager of Economic Development with the City of Prince George.
