Local artist enters designs to Vans contest

PRINCE GEORGE–Vans, you may have seen them at a store at the mall, or you might even own a pair. One local artist is attempting to have her art printed on the skate-inspired shoe.

Hannah Minck has pursued art from a young age, however, it wasn’t always front and centre as she also played sports, and that took priority for several years–but now she’s right back into it. Throughout her time as an athlete and even now Minck has and continues to be an avid Vans fan.

Hannah Minck’s most popular design in the contest.

Minck happened to stumble across a contest that Vans was hosting, one where artists are able to enter their designs and potentially have their art chosen to be printed on the shoes and win a $25,000 cash prize.

She knew she had to enter, so she did…16 designs, which she had to narrow down to a few less. Currently, her most popular design is sitting at just over 1,200 likes. The designs with the most likes will make it into the finals.

Minck has been putting her art on her Vans for a while, ever since her boyfriend suggested she did, “I’ve had so many people asking me–cause I wear them daily–people are like where did you get those Vans? I’m like, I made them, you can’t get them anywhere else,” she said to us.

For Minck, sharing her art hasn’t been easy, “this is something that’s so personal to me,” she told us, “when it is something so personal it’s hard to put yourself out there, but when you start to gain that traction with people you’re just like, wow, maybe I do have something here.”

She mentions that for her it’s not about the money, “I’ve always wanted a career with Vans or Disney…so to me, I would almost rather (say), can I have a job instead?” Minck says she might play around with the idea of designing her own line of clothes, or even her own shoes in the future.
