OCP Amendments for more housing
PRINCE GEORGE – Council has approved changes to the Official Community Plan, which could see the build-out of a large neighbourhood at the southeast intersection of Northern Nechako Road and Foothills Boulevard. The 85-hectare site is currently used for gravel extraction.
Representatives from L & M Engineering laid out the North Nechako Neighbourhood Plan for Council to paint a picture of what is proposed for that site. The developers are looking at low- and medium-density housing plus neighbourhood commercial on that site.
The plan also identified several intersection improvements at Churchill Road and North Nechako Road which would entail a right-hand turn lane once the total number of dwellings reaches 250, another would be a westbound right-hand turn lane at Dever Road once 80 properties have developed. A third intersection further west will be developed. In total, six intersections will be improved as the development occurs. One person spoke in opposition, concerned about both the traffic and the impacts of the development on wildlife movements through the area.
However, Council was quick to point out this is merely an amendment to the OCP, not the development as a whole. Members of the public will still have plenty of time to comment on the neighbourhood plan.
