Official groundbreaking for new student housing
PRINCE GEORGE – If you’ve noticed a big hole in the ground beside the Marriott Hotel, there’s a reason for that. Representatives from Faction Properties and the City were on hand this afternoon for the formal groundbreaking on a new student housing project to be located at that site.
“It’s 205 units of what we call self-contained student housing. So they’re all small studios, all single occupant, so they’re all independent which we find is very popular with students,” describes Tim McLennan of Faction Properties.
All the suites will be furnished as well, there will be common areas and a gym.
When Mayor Lyn Hall was first elected, he struck two committees. The first was on education and the other was on student needs. The latter produced a White Paper which identified housing, particularly in the downtown, as one of the top two priorities. And the McLellan says he was made aware of that before choosing the location for the project.
