Surge in stolen hunting gear from vehicles overnight RCMP say
PRINCE GEORGE–Hunters beware!
Prince George RCMP say they are asking hunters to use caution when it comes to leaving their firearms in their vehicles overnight. This, after a report of several firearms being stolen. Police say most of the thefts occurred in or near hotel parking lots and motels, but some were in residential driveways.
“We understand that hunters want to get an early start to make the most of the day and the hunting season” says Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP. “However, leaving hunting gear including guns in a vehicle attracts thieves and motivates them to the possibility of a good score. The prospect of stealing firearms is a pretty good motivator by itself, but thieves know even if there are no firearms, the reward is often thousands of dollars’ worth of hunting gear.”
Police are asking the public to pack their ammunition, and other valuable items before leaving for their trip instead of leaving it in their cars overnight. RCMP want to remind the public to report suspicious behaviour to them. Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP.
