VANCOUVER–The knives will be out, and the aprons will be on for the Culinary Apprentice of the Year Award competition this year, and one hopeful winner is a local.

Aaron Ivanoff was one of the 11 of 40 applicants chosen from across BC to participate in the competition–this is the first time the competition has been open to culinary hopefuls from throughout the province. Competitors will attempt to impress judges and guests invited to the culinary event in Vancouver, on November 2nd with a three-course meal. The event allows competitors to learn new skills and gain new knowledge from others and chefs.

“CNC’s professional cook instructors praised Aaron Ivanoff as a dedicated student who always strived to do his best throughout the Level 1 and Level 2 training he completed at CNC,” said Frank Rossi, Dean of Trades and Technologies at College of New Caledonia. “He won an award for being the top student in his class, and it’s great to see him further his training. He’s the first participant in the Culinary Apprentice of the Year Award competition to train at CNC, and we wish him the best of luck.”

In order to be eligible to compete, applicants must have received their Red Seal Chef Certificate in 2018 or be registered as a third-year culinary apprentice in 2019, and must be working in BC at the time of the application. This is the first time the competition has been held, after a ten year hiatus.
