VANCOUVER– Election day is right around the corner. The majority of the population may vote before work, at lunch or head to the polls after a day at the office, but what if you could have the whole day off just to vote?

An online survey, of a representative national sample, by Research Co. shows that 58 percent of Canadians agree with declaring election day a public holiday in Canada. 32 percent are not in favour an 11 percent are undecided.

“Canadians aged 18-to-34 (72%) are significantly more likely to concur with the notion of making election day a holiday,” says Mario Canseco, President of Research Co. “Canadians aged 35-to-54 (57%) and those over the age of 55 (48%) are not as enthusiastic.”

The survey also showed sizeable a majority of Canadians who voted NDP, Liberal and Conservative would welcome the change.
