PRINCE GEORGE – It’s been over 70 years since the first nations community of Lheidli T’enneh hosted a potlatch.
Elders from surrounding first nations communities were invited to a two-day gathering at Lheidli T’enneh health centre.
During the two sessions elders shared stories and protocols on how to host a potlatch. A potlatch is a process of governing and uniting a community.
Potlatches were banned by the Canadian federal government up to the end of world war two. Since then relearning how to host a potlatch is a priority for Lheidli T’enneh.
