PRINCE GEORGE — Recent new legislation designed to reduce the amount of youth vaping is being met with a mix of optimism and skepticism in Prince George.

Set to be implemented next spring, some deterrents surround advertising, increased taxes, and lower nicotine levels.

On the one hand, minimal advertising and peer-to-peer services should help with the issue according to School District 57. Trustee Trent Derrick noted successful campaigns run by youth to cut down on cigarette smoking and impaired driving among young people.

But Dylan Bernardo with local retailer VapouRevolution said young people can still get ahold of them through adults buying stuff for them. He also mentioned an issue that could arise from the increased taxes, saying people who vape to cut down on smoking could go back to cigarettes if they feel they are not saving enough money with the artificial approach.
