PRINCE GEORGE– The public is now able to report crime online.

This through a pilot project launched in Prince George and other participating communities across BC. Starting November, 20th, the PG RCMP will accept crime reports through an online reporting tool on their website.

In a release by the Prince George RCMP they say that reporting crime online provides an alternative way for the public to report less serious crimes that occurs in Prince George and surrounding areas, as well as allowing call takers and frontline personnel to focus on higher priority calls.

Incidences that are reportable online:

  • Damage/mischief to property where the value is under $5,000
  • Damage/mischief to a vehicle where the value is under $5,000
  • Hit and run to property or an unoccupied vehicle
  • Theft of bicycle where the value is under $5,000
  • Theft of other property where the value is under $5,000
  • Theft from a vehicle where the value is under $5,000
  • Lost property

There are several conditions, however, if you’d like to report a crime online including using your real name when reporting a crime, there are no witnesses or suspects, follow up by police must not be required, reports shouldn’t include personal identification, and the user must agree to the terms.

The pilot project was launched in the summer of 2019 and has now expanded to more communities across BC.
