A Positive Downtown

Downtown has much to offer

PRINCE GEORGE – A group of downtown businesses is fighting against all the bad news these days.

Diana Fedun manages McInnis Lighting. She says the downtown has a ton to offer in terms of restaurants and downtown amenities, like boutique shops.

“It really is a wonderful place to come and shop and see the unique stores that you’re not going to find elsewhere in the city.”

That sentiment is echoed by Eion Foley. He opened Nancy O’s on Third Avenue ten years ago. He says he took the chance a decade ago because he saw a unique opportunity. And others were of like mind. That small corps of entrepreneurs turned things around in the downtown.

“There is a bit of a dichotomy downtown. It’s easy to focus on some of the negative aspects downtown. But we have to remember, there are incredibly positive things happening.”

He says he wouldn’t have invested more in the downtown if he didn’t believe in it. And he says having people living in the area, with more watchful eyes, will make a world of difference.

Fedun says what’s happening can be addressed if everyone “bands together” on the issue.
