‘We are tired of not having a say’ Wexit BC comes to Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE–It was a sea of blue to the west after the 2019 Federal Election took place, with the prairies voting Conservative.

However, that blue trickled into the eastern and some of the central ridings in BC. Wexit started to surface on social media as #wexitAlberta not too long after it was announced the Liberals had won a minority government.

“We are tired of not having a say,” Lee Smith Interim Party Leader for Wexit BC.

So from Alberta, now to BC, the separatist movement is continuing to bring awareness to their cause. A rally is planned for Saturday from 10-3 p.m. at the Treasure Cove Casino.

“We don’t really have any representation in Ottawa–most of us know this year. When we look at vote totals, they are pretty much decided when Ontario and Quebec vote and this is causing a problem for us here in BC and all over the west. From here to Manitoba…the Albertans are a little more vocal than us, but the same anger is still here,” said Lee Smith Interim Party Leader for Wexit BC.

Smith says Prince George was chosen as a location for the rally because of it being a hotspot for those who work in industries such as oil, gas and forestry.

“The message is that we aren’t properly represented here in the west and our needs aren’t met. Ottawa creates policies that harm our industry and it’s affecting families and people who live here.”

Smith says anyone is welcome to drop by the free event Saturday, for coffee, hot chocolate and to learn more about the movement.
