MERRITT — The Prince George Spruce Kings road woes continue with a 4-2 loss to the Merritt Centennials.

Merritt jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period and then a 4-0 lead after the second.

Local product Corey Cunningham managed to get the team somewhat back on track in the final 20 minutes breaking the goose-egg with his 10th goal of the season. He also had an assist later on the powerplay. Despite five opportunities with the man advantage, PG converted just once.

The 10-14-2-3 Spruce Kings now travel to Wenatchee for a Monday night game against the Wild.

Meanwhile, the Spruce Kings have added goaltender Carter Woodside (01) to the roster. In three games with the KIJHL’s Princeton Posse, Woodside was 3-0 with a 1.33 GAA. He has prior WHL and BCHL experience. He also stopped all 13 shots he faced in Friday’s game against Merritt in a relief appearance.

“We are fortunate to be able to add Carter to our team. Carter is someone we have known for a while back to his midget days with the Prince Albert Mintos”, said Mike Hawes, General Manager of the Spruce Kings.

“Jett Alexander can’t play every game and having another goalie that we know can get the job done is important. Carter will more than provide that”.

In turn, the team has announced they have traded goalie Jack McGovern to the Rockland Nationals of the CCHL in exchange for future considerations. He had an 0-2 record with PG and sported a 6.49 GAA.
