SD57 vice principal finds “piece of heaven” in Giscome
GISCOME, B.C. – It’s quite different from the Chinese city of 16-million he came from.
After serving as a vice principal and English teacher at Guangzhou’s Huamei-Bond International School – with nearly 5,000 students spread across its campus – Jason Schwartz was looking for a change of scenery.
Now, he finds himself as the vice principal at Giscome Elementary, a 28 student school approximately 45 kilometres northeast of Prince George.
Raised in Ontario, Schwartz landed his first teaching position in Hall beach, Nunavut. His career then led him to Woodstock, ON, where he was an elementary school teacher and later vice principal in a city where he ironically enough grew up in. After ten years in Woodstock with the Thames Valley District School Board, he then took advantage of the opportunity to move to China for work.
